You get all of this for $597 . . .
1) Introduction to
Licensing: Creating A Cash Flow Machine Part One:
Getting Started On
An Action Plan That’s Right For You
A
52-minute audio, 12-page course workbook, 21-page transcript
that reveals, in detail, how one of the most powerful tools for
leveraging income and creating multiple revenue streams is by licensing
intellectual properties. An intellectual property is an innovative
product or service you’ve created that you can license out to third
parties to generate income for yourself.
And you’ll learn everything you need to know from licensing expert Rand
Brenner. Rand has worked for companies like Warner Bros. and Saban
Entertainment, helping to license products for shows like Looney Tunes
and Power Rangers.
Obviously, one of the first steps in the process of licensing
intellectual property is obtaining a trademark, patent, or copyright for
your idea. But you need to know that once you obtain one, your idea will
become public information. And although having a legally protected idea
does give you protection, it’s not going to stop someone from figuring
out a way to use your idea. So you need to have an action plan in place
before you do anything else. And in this introduction, you’ll hear how
to get started developing one.
Key Aspects For Developing Your Action Plan:
• How to develop an “intellectual-property mindset” by noticing the
branding and trademarks that surround you every day – and how to know
where your idea will fit in • Sound marketing principles you need to know in order to make the most
money off your idea • Lucrative opportunities to consider for your intellectual property • Why you should think beyond the United States when considering the
value of your idea, and the top 5 global markets for consumers • Why you need to be able to demonstrate the marketability of your
intellectual property, and how to begin doing that • How licensing your product or service is also a powerful tool for
bringing in resources to make, market, sell and expand on your idea
without the need for additional financing
So in Part One of this introduction, you’ll hear all about what
intellectual property is, how to create multiple streams of revenue with
it, and how to fully and legally protect your ideas. Rand walks you
through the steps so you’ll know what kind of action plan you need and
how to get started on it today.
2) Introduction to Licensing:
Creating A Cash Flow Machine Part Two: How To
Find Licensees And Negotiate The Terms Of Your Agreement
A 37-minute audio and
accompanying 15-page
transcript that explains how companies don’t
license ideas; they license money. So in order to find successful
licensees for your idea, you’ll need to show them how your product or
service fits in with their business and why it’s worth their time.
To do that, you have to know some numbers about cost, pricing and profit
margins. Although this requires a little research on your part, it can
easily be done on the Internet or at your local library. And in the
first half of Part Two, you’ll hear how to find out what the
marketability of your idea is and how to showcase that value in a
presentation to potential licensees.
Key Points About Presenting Your Idea:
• Why identifying what kind of
idea you have – benefits vs. solutions, needs vs. wants, cost vs.
profitability, and commodity vs. innovation – will determine what kind
of licensee to go after and how
• How to “seed the market” by testing your idea to demonstrate
real-world success and ways to gather quantitative data
• All about the sell sheets, prototypes, and other tangibles you’ll need
to bring to a presentation
• Some examples of what Rand has done in the past to demonstrate how his
intellectual property can be applied to a potential licensee’s existing
products to “show them the money”
• The exact criteria that makes up a good presentation
Once you’ve had a successful presentation and a company is interested,
then you’ll both enter into negotiations to determine the licensing
agreement itself. And in the second half of Part Two, you’ll hear how a
licensing agreement is usually structured, the steps that both parties
take to reach an agreement, and the key terms and conditions to know.
Key Points On Negotiating A Licensing Agreement:
• How your research and hard work will pay off in the negotiating
process
• Why you’ll want a win-win agreement that makes for a long-term
collaborative relationship – and how to do that without being a doormat
• The flexible points of a licensing agreement, determining how
hands-off you want to be, and why a bad deal is worse than no deal at
all
• All about royalties, the myths surrounding them, and specific amounts
you can expect to receive
• Everything you need to know about the agreement including exclusive
vs. non-exclusive rights, performance guarantees, development costs,
infringement problems, termination clauses and quality control
Licensing intellectual property is a great way to make a living once you
know how to do it, and this introduction will give you the solid
foundation you need to get started.
3)
Licensing Mastery Part One: Identifying Options, Opportunities, And
Where Your Product Fits In
A
55-minute audio, 63-page course workbook, and accompanying 22-page transcript
that discusses how Licensing is an excellent tool for leveraging
copyrights, trademarks, or patents and generating revenue from them –
without much involvement or risk. And in Part One, you’ll hear how to do
that, straight from the beginning.
There are many different facets of licensing, and you’ll need to be able
to identify what kind of idea you have to know where it fits into a
market. This kind of assessment will give you a solid foundation for
developing your strategic licensing plan. And Rand walks you through all
the steps to make sure you have that kind of strong foundation.
Together with the workbook, you’ll learn how to plug your numbers into
his formula to find the cost effectiveness of your idea and determine
its profitability. You’ll also hear all about the options and
opportunities you have with licensing and how to make the most of them.
More Key Points You’ll Hear In Part One:
• How to use licensing to break into a market that may
not seem obtainable – and other benefits to intellectual properties
• An overview of more than 20 different property sectors including
publishing, sports, fashion and art that will give you an idea of the
possibilities licensing can give you – and the crossover opportunities
that come with them
• How to use licensing to set up joint ventures and strategic alliances
• Resources for filling in gaps you may have in your cost-effectiveness
formula
• How to use the workbook to set up a “revenue forecast”
• A breakdown of intellectual property cycles and models – from
“evergreen products” to “classic with a promotional spike” – and how to
identify where yours fits in so you can start building a licensing plan
Although the most important step in capitalizing on your intellectual
property is taking action, you’ll never want to rush an idea to market
without determining the best way to do it. And in Part One, you’ll hear
how it’s done.
4) Licensing Mastery Part Two: The
Power Of Research, Trade Shows, And Enthusiasm
With this
48-minute audio and accompanying 20-page transcript, you'll learn
that regardless of which option you take – whether you decide to
manufacture your own products, license them out, or both – you’ll need
to conduct research to evaluate your intellectual property’s
profitability and marketability. And in the first part of this audio,
you’ll hear how to perform your own due diligence, including assessing
retail price points, unit costs, the competitor landscape, manufacturing
feasibility, and more.
It’s this kind of solid quantitative research that you’ll need when
presenting your idea to potential licensees. You’ll also need
enthusiasm. And in the second part of this audio, Rand goes over what
makes a great presentation including how to plug your information into
his PowerPoint presentation so you’ll have an instant visual to showcase
your intellectual property.
You’ll also hear how to use tradeshows as an indispensable tool to find
licensees, research the competition, network within your market, test
your idea, and learn how to display your product.
More Key Concepts From Part Two:
• Tips for conducting due diligence and what you need to
know about “invention promotion” companies before you buy into them
• How to get your due diligence information ready for the presentation –
you’ll want to make sure you do more than just regurgitate what you’ve
found
• Why it’s important to know who your audience is before you make a
presentation and what to do if you don’t know the answer to a question
• How to have a tangible presentation that demonstrates the application
of your copyright, trademark, or patent
• How to determine what kinds of tradeshows to go to, who to seek out
when you’re there, and exactly how to have an exhibit there
When it comes to licensing, there are no shortcuts. But if you take the
time to do things right, it’ll be well worth the investment. And in Part
Two, you’ll hear how to conduct sound research, present like a pro, and
make the most of tradeshow..
5) Licensing Mastery Part Three:
How To Build Value And Negotiate Royalties
This
42-minute audio and accompanying 17-page transcript will
teach you that before you begin negotiations with a potential licensee,
you should know the value of your intellectual property and be able to
demonstrate it. There are basically three ways to do this, with the type
of idea you have determining the best approach to use. And in the first
part of this audio, you’ll hear how to determine your intellectual
property’s value – and how to build on it.
Because royalty rates are a reflection of value, it’s important to know
the profitability and marketability of your intellectual property. And
in this audio, you’ll also learn how to structure royalty payments, and
examples of ranges to expect.
But don’t expect the negotiation process to happen overnight.
Negotiation is a critical part of licensing that takes time and usually
begins when you first start talking with a potential licensee. However,
there are certain rules that will help to ease the process along, and in
this audio you’ll hear how to develop a negotiating game plan.
Other Key Points From Part Three:
· The factors that make up value when it comes to intellectual property
and how to determine if you have a narrow or broad patent
· All about licensing agents and invention promotion firms – how they
usually get paid, how they operate, and red flags to look out for before
you commit
· An easy way to determine if an invention promotion firm is legitimate
and will do a good job for you
· How to assess your intellectual property’s marketability – by looking
at how recognizable your intellectual property is, the size of your
potential market, who the competition is, and more
· How important timing is and what usually happens if the market changes
for your intellectual property
· An overview of the workbook examples with a look at royalty rates by
industry and invention type
· Rules and preparation tips for negotiating and exactly how to use your
due diligence to its fullest
It doesn’t matter whether you hire a third-party agent to negotiate for
you or you opt to do it yourself, you’ll need to remember that it’s a
dynamic process that takes time. And Rand walks you through all the
steps to make sure you know how to make the best deal possible.
6)
Licensing Mastery Part Four: Understanding The 3 Key Legal Documents Of
The Licensing Process
This
46-minute audio and accompanying 18-page report discusses the
three documents you need to know about while you move through the
licensing process – the non-disclosure agreement (NDA), the deal memo,
and the licensing agreement. And in this audio, you’ll learn the key
elements of each while you follow along using workbook examples.
Before you discuss your intellectual property with anyone, you’ll want
to make sure you have a non-disclosure agreement signed to keep your
proprietary information safe. This agreement basically outlines the
terms and conditions of confidentiality, and in the first part of this
audio, you’ll learn what is usually covered and what isn’t.
Deal memos are also important because they summarize all the points
agreed on during negotiations and have many components such as
distribution channels, rights to make and sell, the license period, and
more – and you’ll hear what each means for you.
And then you’ll learn about the licensing agreement itself. There are
many different types of agreements depending on the type of intellectual
property you have, and you’ll hear everything you need to know about
each.
Other Key Points From Part Four:
• Why some companies may not want to sign a
confidentiality agreement and what to do if that happens
• Why you’ll want to complete a patent agreement within one year of
using a NDA – and other caveats to look out for
• An explanation of the key business terms you’ll hear in deal memos and
licensing agreements including territorial exclusivity, quality control,
termination clauses, license fee, royalty rate, the duration of the
license, and more
• Safeguards you’ll want in place in case your licensee goes bankrupt
• All about patent agreements, know-how agreements, trademark and
copyright agreements, merchandise licensing agreements, sub-licensing,
and more
• Why you need to make sure that the integrity of your property is being
followed and how to do that
Although it’s not necessary to become an expert in this area of
licensing, it is important to have a good understanding of the documents
you’ll see along the way and how each impacts your intellectual
property. And in this audio, you’ll hear all about them.
7)
Licensing Leverage Part One: Developing An Intellectual Property
Strategy For Business Growth And Marketing
This 68-minute audio, 17-page course workbook, and accompanying 27-page transcript
reveals how most small to mid-size business owners don’t realize they
have intellectual property they can leverage. But logos, trademarks,
products, processes, and services are all examples of possible
intellectual properties you may already own.
Licensing this property to other companies will help you reach different
markets and territories with little effort. And while this is one
technique for growth, you could also acquire additional intellectual
properties, and diversify your marketing strategy even further.
So in the first part of this audio, you’ll hear the options business
owners have when it comes to developing an intellectual property
strategy for growth through leveraging, licensing and acquiring.
Then in the second part of the audio, you’ll hear how to evaluate your
business and your intellectual properties so you can increase your
business’s revenue and value.
Other Key Points From Part One:
• How to determine the economic value of your intellectual property and
how to use it to access capital
• Ways to use licensing as the contractual tool to build strategic
alliances and partnerships
• Examples of how to leverage your intellectual property in more ways
than just financial
• Ways to use licensing to get a competitive position in a niche market
• Online and offline strategies for acquiring products and expanding
your market
• Ways to use licensing to promote your products and services to create
a loyal clientele
• Why you’ll want to make sure your employees are covered under a
work-for-hire agreement – and how to do it
Having intellectual property means you have exclusive rights to a
particular product, service, process or innovation. This exclusivity
gives you a significant market advantage, and in this section, you’ll
hear how to develop a strategy for taking advantage of that.
8)
Licensing Leverage Part Two: Unlocking The Commercial Value Of Your
Intellectual Property
Here's a 72-minute audio and accompanying 29-page transcript that
discusses that, as economies around the world change, many opportunities
emerge, especially for small-to-midsize businesses. And licensing gives
business owners a new way to think about everyday products and services,
and the linear way they’re usually promoted.
By unlocking the commercial value of intellectual property, you can use
it to form partnerships, finance business ventures, enter new markets,
and access new resources.
But you should know what kind of property you have
first. Unfortunately, many businesses overlook the fact that their
products, services, and processes actually evolve into intellectual
properties over time.
So in the first half of Part Two, you’ll hear how to build a portfolio
of intellectual property. You’ll get a full overview of the process from
partnering with other companies to leveraging the resources of your
organization.
Then in the second half of the audio, you’ll hear how to “think outside
the box” by using licensing to enhance the market value of your small
business, obtain financing, and develop a business plan. Extracting the
full value is really what leveraging is about. And you’ll hear how to
manage all your intangible assets.
More Key Points From Part Two:
• How to use licensing as a first step to not only
forming a partnership with other companies but also a long-term merger,
acquisition, or exit strategy
• All about the strategic alliances and joint ventures you can make with
licensing – and what to look for in the perfect partner
• Key terms you’ll need to know along the way like minimum guarantee,
quarterly reporting, and quality control
• All the advantages “having an exclusive” affords you when it comes to
licensing and a few caveats to look out for
• Exactly what you need to be aware of before you sub-license to make
sure everyone is on the same page
• Franchising as a licensing option – and the differences between it and
a licensing agreement
• Why large corporations can’t always commercialize their smaller
technologies – and how small businesses can use that as a huge
opportunity
• How to use licensing to attract investors and get a start-up up and
running
• Real-life examples of how licensing works
Intellectual properties are just the tip of the iceberg. You’re really
leveraging all the resources and opportunities behind it. And in this
audio, you’ll hear how to do that.
9)
Business Process Licensing: The 90 Day Cash Flow Creator
It doesn’t matter if it’s sales training,
personal-growth seminars or marketing systems, if you have a proprietary
system or process in place, you can make money licensing it within the
next 3 months – provided it meets the criteria of intellectual property.
And in this
70-minute audio, 19-page course workbook, and accompanying 26-page transcript,
you’ll hear how to make that determination and how to
develop and implement a licensing plan that works for you.
There are essentially four elements necessary to prepare for licensing,
and in the first part of the audio you’ll be walked through the process,
from setting up an infrastructure to knowing your financial perspective.
Then once you’ve developed your method, you’ll put together a licensing
strategy that includes a thorough examination of your property and your
goals in order to determine the best direction to take.
And at the end of the audio, you’ll also hear how to develop marketing
materials using workbook examples and templates.
Other Key Points About Business Process Licensing:
• The 2 options you have for legally protecting your
business process or system and how to determine which one is right for
you
• How to determine your production and delivery costs, distribution
channels, and the revenues your licensees can expect to receive
• How to conduct a financial analysis of your operating expenses
• All about the compensation structures you can expect from licensees –
a fixed fee, annual renewal, or a hybrid of both – and how to know which
one is best for you
• The 4 key elements you need to properly present, identify and
negotiate a licensing agreement for your business
• Ways to show value for both the licensee and the end customer – and
why you need to be able to do both
• Creative ideas for finding licensees
• All about presenting your licensing opportunity to prospects – from
filling out a non-disclosure agreement to negotiating the deal
Licensing is a process, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait a long
time before you start seeing results. If you follow the steps outlined
in this audio, you’ll be able to deliver an exclusive intellectual
property to licensees and start making money within 90 days.
10)
Opportunities In Niche Licensing Part One: The Art, Automotive, And
Brand-Sector Fields
There are many different fields when it comes to licensing, and
each is filled with its own nuances and opportunities for both licensing
in and licensing out. So in this audio, you’ll hear about three of those
fields – the art, automotive and brand sectors.
Licensing Art
Licensing artwork offers year-round profit potential and consumer
appeal. Artists can easily create additional revenue sources by
leveraging artwork to third-party companies without the manufacturing,
distribution or selling risks, while licensees can use art to take
advantage of trends and fads. And you’ll hear all about these benefits
in the first part of this audio including...
• Ways to build brand image and why you’ll want to do this
• Elements that make artwork more appealing for licensing
• How to gain exposure for your artwork in the marketplace
• How to do your marketing due diligence to see how your art compares to
the competition
• Exactly what makes artwork licensable
• Some of the trends and fads to look out for in the art industry today
and how to take advantage of them
Licensing In The Automotive Industry
There are also many opportunities available in the automotive industry.
From automakers like Ford and Chrysler to automotive magazines, the
sales in this marketplace are more than $50 billion a year, with about
$6 billion of that coming from licensed products. So the crossover
possibilities for licensing are enormous, and in the second part of this
audio, you’ll hear how to make the most of them. You’ll also hear…

Opportunities In Niche Licensing Part Two: The Entertainment, Fashion,
And Mobile Sectors
Licensing is all about taking action, and this niche
licensing series is designed to focus on the best licensing sectors,
provide you with information about the opportunities that exist in each,
and help you take action on those opportunities. And in this audio,
you’ll hear about three of those sectors – the entertainment, fashion
and mobile industries.
Entertainment And Character Licensing
With more than $2 billion in royalty revenues and over $40 billion in
retail sales, this market is enormous, and the opportunities are almost
endless for even the smallest of business owners.
Although “character” and “entertainment” are combined into one sector,
they’re actually two different sub-sectors, each with its own
possibilities and nuances. So in the first part of this audio, you’ll
hear the differences between the two, how to determine the focus of
each, and tips and tricks to help you take advantage of every
opportunity. You’ll also hear…
• The many different categories in this industry – comics, books,
characters, video games, greeting cards, movie launches, etc
• A number of ways to take advantage of this sector, even if you’re not
an intellectual property owner
• What studios look for when they license out their intellectual
property
• All about life-spans, evergreen products, global markets, and new
media technologies
• What makes an entertainment property licensable – the challenges, the
opportunities, and what impacts negotiations.
Fashion And Apparel Licensing
Big names, trends, fads and money make this industry one of the most
appealing. With $900 million generated in royalties, and retail sales in
excess of $15 billion, this is a very visible industry that uses
licensing as a means of brand extension.
There are many benefits to this industry too – well known brands,
lifestyle elements, broad retail distribution, a wide selection of
brands, and consumer awareness. And in the second part of this audio,
you’ll hear all about the opportunities that exist including…
• How companies use licensing to market and build their brand names and
ways to capitalize on the brand loyalty in the industry
• What creates fashion trends, what is involved in the licensing of
apparel items, and what is hot right now like eco-conscious and gadget
gear
• Some of the big players in the industry to know about and how to get
their attention
• Resources to tap into for more information about the fashion industry
Interactive And Mobile Content Licensing
A multitude of new technologies drive this sector and cross it over into
all forms of media, from television to video gaming and computers. And
as a result, there are opportunities galore in licensing because a lot
of the content being produced and distributed is licensed.
So in the third part of this audio, you’ll hear all about this
multi-billion-dollar industry, its opportunities, how it’s changing,
where it seems to be going, and how to jump onboard. You’ll also hear…
• What the key areas are for growth and the opportunities they present
• How to use the internet as a starting point to build demand and
exposure for interactive content
• What the trends and offshoots are for this industry and examples of
ways you can use them to your advantage
• All about mobile content to cell phones and the exposure it gives to
other licensing sectors
Marketplaces are dynamic and full of opportunities, and licensing is the
tool that lets you take advantage of it all. The possibilities are
worldwide and unlimited for those who take action, and this niche
licensing series is designed to help you figure out the best action plan
for you.

Opportunities In Niche Licensing Part Three: The Pet, Publishing, and
Sports Sectors
One of the biggest benefits to niche licensing is
that it allows you to be “in the game.” By entering into key
partnerships, you’ll hear about opportunities that aren’t widely known
to outsiders. And this niche licensing series is designed to give you a
perspective on where those opportunities might exist, and how to get
started on them. So in this audio, you’ll hear about three of the best
sectors for niche licensing – the pet, publishing and sports sectors.
Licensing In The Pet Industry
Animal lovers spend a lot of money. Online sales alone in this sector
have reached the billion-dollar mark. That’s why it’s recognized as one
of the fastest growing industries in the United States. And as a result,
it offers huge growth potential through licensing.
Because this is actually a two-market sector, opportunities exist for
licensing products to both human consumers and four-legged ones. And in
the first part of this audio, you’ll hear all about the trends, fads and
crossover opportunities you can expect in this industry, along with some
specific examples of how licensing works hand-in-hand with innovation.
You’ll also hear…
• What’s hot for pets right now – from travel accessories to luxury
pampering items
• Crossover opportunities like art designs for dog sweaters or character
greeting cards
• Capitalizing on breed-specific product ideas
• Tips for acquiring licenses and developing products
• Resources to tap into for a closer look at this market
Licensing In The Publishing Sector
Publishing is on the rise because it easily crosses over into all
industries. So there are tremendous licensing opportunities for books,
magazines, comics, and newspapers –especially if you’re trying to reach
a specific demographic like tweens, teens, children, or generation X.
Although this industry has faced increasing competition from interactive
content lately, it has adapted by expanding into the online and mobile
fields. So you’ll see many new and interesting opportunities come up as
a result of those changes. And in the second part of this audio, you’ll
hear what to expect. You’ll also hear…
• Specific ways publishers gain exposure for their properties – and the
opportunities that may present for you
• The niche-within-a-niche for book publishing that you may want to know
about and take advantage of
• How self-publishing has changed over the years, why it’s an attractive
consideration for a lot of people today, and how to make it work for you
• Ways smaller companies can use licensing to develop products, broaden
their product reach, or diversify a little.
Licensing In The Sports Industry
With more than $700 million in royalty revenues and $14 billion in
retail sales, sports licensing is huge and growing, not only in the
United States but around the world.
Although this industry involves sports at all levels – for both men and
women, young and old – it also has nostalgic loyal fans at every corner,
so it also has stability and longevity going for it as well. And in the
third part of this audio, you’ll hear all about the opportunities you
can expect and how to get started on them including…
• The top product categories for the sports industry – from apparel and
video games to trading cards and toys – and where the licensing
opportunities are for each
• How to make the most of the brand loyalty of fans
• Some of the biggest intellectual properties for this category – first
tier, evergreen, and continuous types
• Event and celebrity-driven licensing opportunities
• Ways to think outside the box with women’s sports, little league,
smaller events, and entertainment sports
Licensing is a great stepping-stone for expanding businesses and
developing products because the opportunities are worldwide and
extensive. And this niche licensing series is designed to help you make
sense of it all and get you in the game.
